Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the timely and accurate accounting close of assigned ledgers and property portfolios, up to approximately 150 properties
  • Perform various general ledger accounting tasks in a complex, multi-entity environment:
    • Develop, document and post journal entries
      • Cash transactions
      • Prepaids and accruals
      • Consolidation and elimination entries
    • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, supported by best-practice-quality documentation
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements for individual properties and portfolios of properties
    • Review journal entry and balance sheet account reconciliation documentation prepared by others
  • Supervise one to three specialist or staff-level accountants
  • Apply critical thinking and Excel skills to analyze large data sets and find insights into financial results. Includes analyzing variances to budgeted and prior period amounts
  • Analyze and communicate to management variances to budgets and prior periods.
  • Assist in preparing recurring and ad hoc management reports, including financial reporting to investment partners
  • Prepare support in response to internal and external audit request
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements for individual stores and various property portfolios
  • Ensure policies, procedures and internal controls are in place to protect company assets and ensure financial statement accuracy
  • Oversee registration of business entities with relevant jurisdictions
  • Oversee timely filings and remittance of taxes, including sales & use taxes and property taxes
  • Navigate state, city and municipal government requirements to obtain business licenses
  • Work with affiliates to assist in improving and conforming accounting practices, policies and procedures across the National Storage portfolio
  • Assist in system implementations

Qualifications

  • Both public and industry-accounting experience preferred
  • CPA or equivalent preferred
  • Experience in real-estate or multi-unit-business accounting
  • Contributed to system implementations is a plus
  • Contributed to integration or disposition of a business, featuring changes in personnel and/or reporting requirements, is a plus
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions
  • Working knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting
  • Strong communication skills are mandatory

Salary: $65,000 – $82,000 annual salary range

FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Greenwood Village, CO
