Purpose:

As a member of the company's accounting team, the Tax Director is responsible for the filing of the company’s tax returns and tax compliance for our legal entities and operating partnership. The Tax Director will also assist the Chief Financial Officer and Controller with high-level projects. This position requires a motivated professional with strong communication skills and a positive, problem-solving attitude. This person should have extensive tax technical knowledge and the ability to interact with all levels of management throughout the company.

Reports to: Controller

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interact with potential sellers of real estate regarding tax implications on buy / sell decisions and forecasting considerations
  • Coordinate with outside tax firm for state and federal income tax filings
  • Responsible for income tax planning and estimated tax payments
  • Respond to all federal and state government correspondence
  • Manage tax compliance for all of our National Storage Affiliates legal entities
  • Manage all tax examinations and audits
  • Manage REIT tests and REIT compliance
  • Engage with independent accountants to facilitate the tax portion of the annual audits
  • Assist the Chief Financial Officer and Controller with high-level accounting projects

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Tax or Accounting required
  • Certified Public Accountant certification required
  • Minimum 7+ years of accounting experience from a tax firm or tax position with a Company

Seeking experience in partnership tax accounting and real estate accounting

This is not a K1 filing position - the external tax firm files the returns and K1's - however you will be responsible for reviewing this work

A successful candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and independently within the company and should be a:

  • Self-motivated, team-oriented individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills who is comfortable working in a demanding and fast-paced environment, and a
  • Well-organized, analytical, professional with diligent attention to detail, with an
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects in partnership with individuals at all levels within and outside of the organization.

Travel:

Limited travel determined by needs of business

Compensation Range:

$120,000 - $160,000. Actual compensation will be based on your skills and experience.
