Through ongoing property contributions from its Participating Regional Operators ("PROs"), third party acquisitions and joint venture partnerships, NSA currently holds ownership interests in and operates approximately 850 self storage properties located in 36 states and Puerto Rico with approximately 53 million rentable square feet. NSA is one of the largest owners of self-storage facilities among public and private companies in the U.S.

NSA leverages the benefits of national scale by integrating multiple experienced regional self storage operators with local operational focus and expertise in addition to its 900+ team members who provide corporate support and manage operations of over half of our portfolio.


The VP – HR is responsible for leading and driving all the human resources functions of NSA and its Family of Brands in alignment with the overall business strategy of the Company and consistent with the Company’s core values of INTEGRITY, ACCOUNTABILITLY, HUMILITY and COMPASSION. Leads the HR team and oversees compensation and benefits, employee relations, compliance, organization development, recruitment, and onboarding functions.

Reports to: President and Chief Executive Officer

Duties and Responsibilities: 

As a key member of the Company’s senior leadership team, responsible for overall strategic human resources initiatives and the design and delivery of Human Resources services, policies, and programs for the NSA corporate and field operations teams, including:

  • Recruiting and staffing.
  • Performance management and improvement systems.
  • Compliance with regulatory concerns regarding employees.
  • Employee onboarding, development, needs assessment, and training. 
  • Policy development and documentation.
  • Employee relations. 
  • Company employee and community communication.
  • Compensation and benefits: design and implementation
  • Employee safety, welfare, wellness, and health programs. 
  • Act as a strategic partner to our senior leadership, provide insightful and innovative problem- solving on all HR issues.
  • Coach and mentor the HR team, build out career progression and development plans, build out an organizational structure aligned with the company’s strategy.
  • Partner with the senior leadership team to assess and determine the company’s strategy for employee development, assessment, retention, etc.
  • Manage the budget and other financial measures of the HR Evaluate the cost and affordability of each program related to current business needs.
  • The VP – HR will lead HR practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented; high- performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, and standards; goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a superior workforce.

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in organizational management or related Masters/MBA preferred.
  • At least ten years of progressive human resource management experience required, with significant exposure to all key HR disciplines.

Travel: Limited travel determined by needs of business. 

Salary Range: $120,000-$130,000 annually

FLSA Status: Exempt

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains management-level HR staff.
  • Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  • Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Works in an indoor office.
  • Use of office equipment and computers.
  • Occasional lifting of supplies and materials from time to time.
  • Positions in this class typically include extended sedentary positions, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, movement and repetitive motions.
