NSA Management Team
Arlen D. Nordhagen is a co-founder of NSA and serves as Chief Executive Officer, President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Mr. Nordhagen has over 25 years of experience in the self storage industry. He served as President and Chief Executive Officer of NSA’s predecessor, SecurCare Self Storage, from 1999 to 2013. He co-founded SecurCare in 1988, is the majority owner and currently serves as its Chairman of the Board. In addition to SecurCare, Mr. Nordhagen was a founder of MMM Healthcare, Inc., the largest provider of Medicare Advantage health insurance in Puerto Rico. He has also served as managing member of various private investment funds and held various managerial positions at DuPont (NYSE: DD) and Synthetech, Inc. (NYSE: GRA). Mr. Nordhagen graduated with high distinction from Harvard University with a Masters in Business Administration and graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering.
Tamara D. Fischer has served as the Chief Financial Officer of NSA since its inception in 2013. Prior to this role, from 2004 to 2008, Ms. Fischer served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Vintage Wine Trust, Inc., a real estate investment trust, where she was involved in all aspects of the company’s capital markets, investor relations and financial reporting activities. She continued to serve Vintage Wine Trust as a consultant through its dissolution in 2010 and served in various other consulting positions until becoming involved with NSA. From 1993 to 2003, Ms. Fischer served as the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Chateau Communities, Inc. (NYSE: CPJ), one of the largest real estate investment trusts in the manufactured home community sector. There, she was responsible for overseeing the company’s initial public offering, several mergers and acquisitions and was involved in capital markets activity, investor relations and financial reporting and administrative responsibilities. Ms. Fischer remained at Chateau through its sale to Hometown America LLC in 2003. Prior to her experience at Chateau Communities, Inc., Ms. Fischer spent nine years at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), initially as an accountant in the real estate practice and later as an Audit Manager. Ms. Fischer is a certified public accountant (inactive) and graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a bachelor of arts in business administration.
Mr. Treadwell joined NSA in December 2014 as Senior Vice President of Operations, and was instrumental in assisting the company with its initial public offering. In 2016, Mr. Treadwell assumed the role of President of NSA's newly acquired iStorage management company. Mr. Treadwell is responsible for driving the company’s technology and best practices platform as well as the integration and growth of the iStorage portfolio. Prior to joining NSA, Mr. Treadwell consulted in the real estate and energy industries, and served as a divisional CFO and First Vice President of Finance at ProLogis, a global REIT in the industrial sector. He also served 12 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Treadwell holds a MBA from Harvard University, a Master of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Mr. Togashi joined NSA in December, 2014, as Vice President and Controller, and assumed the role of Chief Accounting Officer beginning January 2017. Mr. Togashi is responsible for the company’s accounting, financial reporting and tax compliance functions. Previously, he served as Vice President of Corporate Accounting at DCT Industrial Trust, a publicly traded industrial REIT, and Senior Manager at KPMG in the accounting firm’s audit and advisory practice. Mr. Togashi holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Colorado State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Whitaker joined NSA in May, 2013. Mr. Whitaker brings over 20 years of experience in accounting and finance, the majority of which has been spent in the real estate sector. Most recently, Mr. Whitaker was Controller of the Stapleton Redevelopment project for Forest City Enterprises. Prior to this, he held the position of Director of the Denver Region for the Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE: BX) [formerly Equity Office Properties, Inc.]. Prior to the Blackstone Group, Mr. Whitaker worked for Chateau Communities (NYSE: CPJ) in various financial roles including Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Assistant Controller, and Financial Reporting. Mr. Whitaker holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from California State University - Long Beach, and a Masters in Accounting and Finance from Regis University.
Mr. Perry joined NSA in January 2014 and serves as Vice President of Acquisitions, with responsibility for helping source acquisitions, due diligence, underwriting, structuring transactions, and reviewing acquisitions with the PRO Advisory Committee. He also manages the company’s extensive acquisition pipeline. Prior to this role, Mr. Perry served as Vice President – Controller for NSA and played an integral part in preparing the company for its initial public offering. Before joining NSA, he served for ten years, most recently as an audit manager, with the regional public accounting firm of EKS&H specializing in the real estate and energy industries. Mr. Perry holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Colorado State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mr. Dotterer joined NSA in July, 2014. He brings over 20 years of experience solving problems and building teams to help public and private companies maximize their results. His extensive experience developing infrastructure to support financial processes defines the hybrid information technology and accounting role he holds at NSA. Mr. Dotterer previously has worked in cross functional hybrid roles at Webroot Inc., MillerCoors LLC / Coors Brewing Company and KPMG LLP. Prior to joining NSA, Mr. Dotterer served as Campaign Manager for Trancredo for Governor of Colorado. In that role, he provided leadership in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment encompassing strategic planning, operations management and staff recruitment. Mr. Dotterer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree – Accountancy from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of Financial Executives International.
Ms. Dowling joined NSA in August, 2014. With 18 years of experience in Investor Relations, she most recently served as Manager of Investor Relations for PDC Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: PDCE), an oil and gas E&P company headquartered in Denver, Colorado. Previously, Ms. Dowling worked with Aspect Energy, Inc., Chateau Communities (NYSE: CPJ) and Forest Oil Corporation (NYSE: FST), all Denver-based companies. Serving as liaison between senior management and both the investment and media communities, Ms. Dowling also leads in developing and managing all shareholder communications and materials. Ms. Dowling graduated cum laude from Regis University with a dual-major Bachelor of Science in Management-Finance and Marketing and earned a Masters of Business Administration - Finance and Accounting, also from Regis University. She is a long-standing member of the National Investor Relations Institute, and currently serves as a Board Member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter.
